Moving one step ahead of the expected wave of passengers traveling to their respective destinations in observance of All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days, concerned agencies kicked off routine inspections to ensure a safe experience for all travelers.

This, as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) joined forces in looking after the welfare of commuters at PITX on Monday.

LTO officials inspected the roadworthiness of buses, ensuring that only well-maintained vehicles are allowed to transport passengers to their respective hometowns. PDEA, on the other hand, facilitated random drug testing on bus drivers at PITX and select terminals in Cubao, Quezon City.

According to PDEA-NCR Regional Director Derrick Carreon, once the confirmatory test results return a false positive, the erring driver’s license will be given back to him and he will be granted permission to return to duty in time for Undas.

Meanwhile, PNP-HPG Acting Director PBGen. Joyce Patrick Sangalang expressed confidence in the coordination of police units and other agencies to ensure road safety for motorists and commuters alike, as well as underscored the importance of having a unified 911 system which will aid in timely emergency response should the need arise.

Around 1.8 million passengers are projected to travel on Undas, with authorities advising them to reserve tickets in advance to ensure a seamless and hassle-free journey.

Travelers are likewise advised to refrain from bringing items prohibited at terminals, ports, and airports, which include sharp objects such as knives and scissors and flammable liquids such as butane cartridges, lighters, and LPG canisters. (with report from Sheila Natividad | PTV News)
