Crime incidents in Bacolod, NegOcc down by more than 20%

BACOLOD CITY– Crimes in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental have decreased by more than 20 percent in 2017, based on the separate figures released by the police here.

According to Bacolod City Police Office, criminal cases in this city went down by 28.74 percent from January-December 2017 compared to the incidents reported in 2016.

Figures showed that from a total of 4,693 cases in 2016, there were only 3,344 incidents in 2017.

Index crimes such as murder, homicide, robbery, theft, physical injuries, motornapping, and carnapping decreased by 12.72 percent in 2017, totaling 1,015 cases, from 1,266 in 2016.

For non-index crimes, involving violations of special laws and ordinances, cases dropped by 34.67 percent — from 3,427 cases in 2016 to only 2,239 in 2017.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office reported a 23.47 percent decrease in crime incidents in 2017.

For 12 months last year, only 2,977 cases were reported from 3,904 cases in 2016.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., provincial police director, attributed the lower crime incidents to the relentless police operations and the cooperation of the community.(PNA)
