Double pay means double commitment to public: PNP exec

LAOAG CITY — Following the implementation of the salary increase of policemen this January, Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Ilocos Region Philippine National Police (PNP) director, on Wednesday urged officers here to exert more efforts in the performance of their duty.

While in Ilocos Norte since Tuesday, Sapitula had been going around the different police stations to personally check on their status and to reach out to more Ilocanos.

He also met with Governor Ma. Imelda Marcos at the Capitol on Wednesday to discuss the peace and order situation in Ilocos Norte.

Now that the Duterte administration has implemented the base pay hike of military and other uniformed personnel, Sapitula told the police here to double or even triple their dedication and commitment to public service.

The coverage of the modified base pay includes military personnel under the Department of National Defense and uniformed personnel under the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine Coast Guard, and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority.

He likewise enjoined them to act like professionals and to internalize the moral values of the police force.

Sapitula urged lawmen to buy and wear new sets of uniform in order to look more dignified and to show courtesy even to the ordinary citizens who are paying for their salaries.

To help improve the PNP services and programs, Sapitula likewise appealed to the public to report erring cops so he could make appropriate action against them.

He said even his personal number is open to everyone as he assured every concern related to peace and order shall be addressed by the PNP. (PNA)
