54 Bacolod public schools receive fire extinguishers

BACOLOD CITY — A total of 54 public elementary and high schools here received a total of 218 fire extinguishers from the city government on Thursday.

During the turnover rites held at the Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS) campus, the host school received 12 fire extinguishers while Education and Training Center School (ETCS)-I got nine.

ETCS-II and III were given eight each. The other schools received either five or three units each through their school heads or representatives.

The distribution of fire extinguishers, a project of the Local School Board (LSB), was led by Executive Assistant Moises de la Cruz on behalf of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who chairs the LSB.

He was joined by City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas and Bacolod Association of Public School Supervisors and School Administrators president Ronie Tababa.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here warned the public against persons name-dropping the BFP in selling fire extinguishers to business establishments processing their business permits.

Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, said BFP personnel are prohibited from recommending fire extinguishers.

They are not allowed to engage in such transactions, he added. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
