Mayon-affected families reach 23K

MANILA — As Mayon Volcano spews more lava and ash plumes, the number of families affected by its unrest has reached almost 23,000.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad on Friday said the number of families affected by Mayon’s wrath has climbed to 22,827 or 88,866 individuals.

The affected families are residing in 56 barangays located in Bacacay, Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Santo Domingo (Malibog) and Legazpi City, Albay.

Jalad said 18,365 families or 69,672 persons are currently being aided in 69 evacuation centers while another 2,822 families or 11,946 individuals are being helped outside.

Assistance provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Office of Civil Defense, Local Government Units and Non-Government Organizations has now amounted to PHP40,116,833.88. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
