Aid for thousands of Albay displaced residents increased

DSWD and LGU staff assist affected families as they once again evacuate due to the raising of Alert Level 4 over Mayon Volcano.

A great number of displaced residents, who needed assistance in the midst of the intense eruptions of Mount Mayon in Albay province the past weeks, was given relief efforts of food, sanitation and other immediate needs by civilians and the government itself.

More than a thousand residents near the volcano have already vacated the area to reside in schools that have been converted into evacuation shelters. Since then, the number of people needing daily necessities had heightened.

A group of students from Bicol Christian College of Medicine handed relief of foods, face masks and sanitation to the residents of Bayuan, a village 8-kilometer away from Mayon.

The Department of Health (DoH) Center for Health and Development (CHD) in Bicol has released P2 million for the immediate construction and repair of toilets in evacuation centers.
