BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan — A three-hour fire razed a high-end resort in the northern part of Boracay island on Wednesday night.

Fire Inspector Lorna Parcellano, fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Boracay, said the fire that hit Nami Resort in Sitio Diniwid in Barangay Balabag happened at around 10:20 p.m..

Parcellano said the fire was declared under control at around 12:40 a.m. of Thursday nearly three hours after it started.

Estimated damage is pegged at PHP20 million.

The cause of the fire is still being determined by the BFP.

Parcellano said the fire spread easily because majority of the resort is made of native materials.

She said it also took time for the fire brigade to reach Nami because of its uphill and secluded location.

No one was reported hurt due to the blaze.

In a statement, Nami management assured that all of their guests and employees are safe and accounted for.

“We will conduct a full investigation, but for now we ask for your thoughts, kind wishes, and prayers at this difficult time,” Nami said in a statement.

Meanwhile, aside from the BFP, other groups including the Boracay Fire Rescue & Ambulance Volunteers (BFRAV), Savoy Fire Marshal, Shangri-La Fire Marshal, Boracay Island Water Company, Kabalikat-Civicom, Philippine Red Cross-Boracay Malay Chapter as well as the Malay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also helped in controlling the fire.  (Karen Bermejo/PNA)
