Dominguez confirms SEC commissioner’s resignation

MANILA — Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on Friday confirmed the resignation of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Blas James Viterbo for health reasons.

“Viterbo’s resignation is confirmed. Irregular heartbeat is (the) reason he gave,” he told journalists in a Viber message.

Reports quoting SEC Secretary Armand Pan as saying that Viberto tendered his resignation to President Rodrigo R. Duterte through Dominguez last February 1.

Pan said Viberto wanted to “prioritize his medical check-up.”

Effectivity of the Commissioner’s resignation depends upon the acceptance of the President, he said.

Viterbo was appointed to the SEC’s policy-making body for a seven-year term by former President Benigno Aquino III on May 20, 2014.

Prior to this, he was a member of the government-owned Development Bank of the Philippines’ (DBP) Board of Directors and the bank’s representative to the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Board.

He was also a supervising senior at KPMG Philippines before becoming a legislative-technical staff lawyer of then Senator Manuel Roxas II and eventually the Senator’s chief of staff. (PNA)
