Davao City gives P500K financial aid to Legazpi City

LEGAZPI CITY — The Davao city government gave financial assistance to its counterpart here that was saddled with the responsibility of providing for the needs of thousands of residents still housed  at various evacuation centers amid Mt. Mayon’s activity.

Emmanuel Jaldon, head of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and chief operating officer of the city’s 9/11 emergency assistance center, turned over a check amounting to PHP500,000 to Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal on Monday afternoon at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Rosal expressed thanks to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for the financial aid, and said the amount would be used in providing for the daily needs of the evacuees.

The Legazpi City government was spending more than PHP1.2 million daily for the food and other needs of those people in the temporary shelters, he said.

Based on data from the City Social Welfare and Development office, there are a total of 3,117 families or 12,026 individuals affected by the volcanic eruption since January 13.

Recently, Mayor Joan Aquende of Castilla, Sorsogon also turned over PHP100,000 to Rosal as  financial support for the evacuees of Legazpi.

In return, Rosal said he would encourage investors to put up businesses in Castilla to improve the economic activities in the place and give employment to its people.

Legazpi and Castilla are sister cities fostering strong partnership and mutual understanding. (PNA)
