SAP Bong Go: No plans to run for senator

MANILA — Special Assistant to President Christopher ‘Bong’ Go clarified on Monday that he has no plans to run for senator.

Go made this clarification after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte mentioned in jest during his speech at 116th anniversary of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) that the Senate inquiry into PHP15.5 billion frigate acquisition could be Go’s ticket to a Senate seat.

“I would like to publicly state that I am not interested in running for a Senate seat,” Go said in a press statement.

“PRRD only mentioned it in jest in view of my demand to the Senate to conduct a full blown public hearing and get to the bottom of the Frigate controversy,” he added.

Go said he had already dedicated his life in serving President Duterte.

“I am committed to stand beside him ‘til kingdom come,” he said.

The closest aide of the President has been dragged into the controversy after he reportedly intervened in the selection of supplier of combat management system for two Philippine Navy frigates.

Go had denied the media reports, saying he would step down if it would be proven that he intervened in the transaction. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
