PRRD not renewing appointments of 2 SSS execs

MANILA — The appointments of Social Security System (SSS) Chairman Amando Valdez and Commissioner Jose Gabriel “Pompee” La Viña will not be renewed, Malacañang said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. made the announcement in a Palace briefing.

“The appointments of Mr. Jose Gabriel M. La Viña and Mr. Amado D. Valdez as Commissioners of SSS will not be renewed when they expire on 30 June 2017,” Roque told reporters.

Roque pointed out that the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte came since Valdez and La Viña had been serving in the SSS in a hold over capacity.

“(It’s) presidential prerogative,” he added noting that their service will be discontinued “effective immediately.”

He said that Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has formally informed the two SSS executives that their term of office will not be renewed.

Malacañang has yet to announce the two executives’ replacements.

Last year, four key SSS officials were temporarily relieved of their duties following allegations that they had benefited from their positions by trading personal stock market accounts.

These are Executive Vice President for Investments Rizaldy Capulong, Equities Investment Division Chief Reginald Candelaria, Equities Product Development head Ernesto Francisco Jr. and Chief Actuary George Ongkeko Jr. (PNA)
