Cops re-arrest convicted jail escapee in NoCot

KIDAPAWAN CITY — A convicted detainee who escaped from the North Cotabato provincial jail during big-time jailbreak in 2017 was re-arrested after he was shot by a still unidentified attacker.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato police spokesperson, said Jammer Subpangan, 27, of Barangay Tagaligi, Pagalungan, Maguindanao was walking near a Muslim cemetery in Barangay Batulawan, Pikit town when shot by still unidentified gunmen at around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Relatives brought Subpangan to a hospital in Pikit town where the local police re-arrested him following a verification procedure.

Subpangan, convicted of illegal drug charges, was one of the more than 100 inmates who fled the provincial jail in Barangay Amas here after Moro rebels stormed the jail facility on January 4 last year to “rescue” a detained drug lord.

A massive police manhunt later arrested most of the escapees including the drug lord. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
