Young athletes urged to become world-class

DAVAO CITY–World boxing legend Sen. Manny Pacquiao Monday urged young athletes competing in the Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) in Davao City, to strive on becoming world-class athletes.

“When you focus on your dream don’t let the negatives and you should always be positive,” said Pacquiao who graced the ongoing regional meet in Davao City.

Pacquiao believes that the next world boxing champion or gold medalists for the 2020 Olympics will be coming from the region’s athletes The senator also shared with the athletes some values that are useful in achieving their goals.

First is discipline. Pacquiao said it is one of the important traits that an athlete should have because they will not be succeed without it.

He said if discipline is always present, their body, mind and even emotion will be prepared well.

Pacquiao said the focus is also important since it will help them achieve their set objectives in every game.

He said the athlete will not attain their goals if their attention will be divided in every training.

Lastly, resilience. He said this will help them rise in times of defeat.

Pacquiao said in every defeat, athletes should learn to accept defeats, rise and fight again since it is part of the game.

Pacquiao also emphasized the importance of preparation of every athlete in facing their battle.

This, as over 5,000 athletes gathered in the city to compete in the 21 sporting events to earn a spot for the Palarong Pambansa.

Winners of these sporting events will represent the Davao Region in the national games in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. (Armando B. Fenequito Jr./PNA)
