GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Four police personnel in Region 12 have been ordered dismissed from service while seven more are facing termination proceedings due to various administrative charges.
Chief Insp. Aldrin Gonzales, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-12, said Tuesday these cases were among the 25 administrative complaints that were resolved by the regional police as of December 2017.
He said these were filed by civilians and the PRO-12 to the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) and the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division (RIDMD).
“These have been forwarded to the Office of Discipline and Law and Order Section for final resolution,” he said.
Of the 25 resolved cases, Gonzales said seven policemen were recommended for termination, seven were suspended, four were exonerated, one had his case dismissed and two were reprimanded.
He said nine of these involved grave offenses, seven for summary termination proceeding, five for simple offenses, three for less grave offense and one for “conduct unbecoming of a police officer.”
The police official said the RIAS handled the complaints filed by civilians while the RIDMD catered to cases endorsed by PRO-12.
He said three of the resolved cases involved police commissioned officers or those with the ranks of Police Inspector and above.
Most of the administrative cases that were filed involved non-commissioned personnel with the rank of Police Officer 1.
Gonzales said Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, Region police director, has ordered the speedy resolution of pending administrative cases involving erring police personnel.
He said such move was in compliance with a directive issued by acting Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año to the National Police Commission and the Philippine National Police (PNP) “to act quickly and efficiently on cases involving a PNP member and file administrative cases for their offenses.”
Morales earlier said that he would not tolerate any wrongdoing by police personnel and warned that “any of his men caught violating the law will be dealt with and face appropriate charges.”
“I cannot tolerate wrongdoings among my men, especially now that their pay has now doubled or increased. They should perform their duties and responsibilities, exemplify good attitude and avoid activities that destroy the image of the PNP,” he said.
Last month, a rookie police officer was charged with criminal and administrative violations after allegedly manhandling a security guard posted outside a casino here.
Two other policemen from the South Cotabato Crime Laboratory and the Highway Patrol Group were relieved and are now facing various charges for allegedly mauling another security guard at a bar in Koronadal City.(PNA)
