Padlusan zipline now open to public

SAN JOSE de BUENAVISTA, Antique — The zipline at the Padlusan Adventure Park in Barangay Tubudan, San Remigio, Antique has been officially opened just in time for the hosting of the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUUA).

Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao led the opening of the zipline and had herself an inaugural ride with Vice Governor Edgar Denosta on Wednesday.

She invited Capitol heads of offices, SCUAA officials and athletes to enjoy the free zipline ride.

The zipline was finally opened to promote San Remigio, the governor said.

The municipal government of San Remigio had submitted a resolution to open the ride due to declining tourist arrivals.

The zipline, which was completed in February 2017, was not immediately made available to the public due to the worry of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan member of its safety.

To show that it is safe to ride, Antique Provincial Engineer Inocencio Dajao and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train also took their turn in riding the zipline.

The two officials have repeatedly assured of the zipline’s safety.

The clients targeted for the zipline ride are the 7,000 student-athletes and coaches from all over the country, who are taking part in the national sports meet.

SCUUA, which is being hosted for the first time by the Antique University, opened on February 18 and will wrap up on February 24.

Meanwhile, both the governor and vice governor also rode horses at Padlusan, one of the tourism experiences being offered in the area.

“We earlier distributed horses to barangay residents who work as sacadas (sugar migrants) for their alternative livelihood and so they are now using it for the horse- riding activity,” the governor said.

The alternative livelihood is being provided by the provincial government to dissuade sacadas from going to Negros Occidental to work there due to reports of exploitations and them being away from their families. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
