300 cops to join historic EDSA ‘salubungan’ reenactment on Sunday

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that it will be deploying some 300 police officers to take part in the 32nd anniversary commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolt on Sunday.

Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, PNP spokesperson, said the event will take place at the People Power Monument in EDSA, Quezon City.

He added that the 300 police personnel will be part of the “Salubungan” activity, which is the annual reenactment of the union of the people forces in the ouster of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

This year’s commemoration will highlight activities with the theme “EDSA 2018: Effecting Change Towards Strengthened Democracy”.

Meanwhile, The National Capital Region Police Office will also provide security coverage, traffic management, emergency preparedness and response, and other public safety services in all places of engagement.

Top officials are also expected to attend including Cabinet Secretaries, Commissioner-EEPC, Local Chief Executives, Foreign Dignitaries, and other Chiefs of Offices of various government and non-government agencies.

Some activities will be organized by various government agencies, which include a holy mass at the Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA in Ortigas, Pasig City; medical, dental, and optical services; Diskwento Caravan of the Department of Trade and Industry; jobs fairs; and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
