No reported security threat to 32nd People Power anniversary: PNP

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has yet to detect any security threat that could mar the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolt on Sunday.

Security preparations though are underway, said PNP spokesperson, Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, over Radyo Pilipinas late Friday.

This, he said, includes the deployment of 1,800 police officers in the venues where the celebrations are expected to take place.

Reinforcements are also available for any contingency, Bulalacao added.

This year’s commemoration will highlight the theme, “EDSA 2018: Effecting Change Towards Strengthened Democracy”.

The EDSA People Power Revolt, from Feb. 22-25, 1986, gathered millions of people in a “bloodless” revolution that toppled the 20-year rule of then president Ferdinand Marcos, ushering the return of democracy to the Philippines. (PNA)
