Davao City wins first gold in Batang Pinoy

OROQUIETA CITY — Davao City won its first gold in the ongoing Batang Pinoy Mindanao Games at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex here.

Andrea Annabela de Guia clocked 5.05.40 to give the Durians its first gold medal in the Girls 1500m run. De Guia led all the way to beat 15 other runners from all over Mindanao.

De Guia beat her own teammate Reza Tuba, who settled for the silver medal at 5:06.34 followed in third by Annie Mary Depone (5:22.25) of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

Mark Rennel Hubag also gave the first gold for South Cotabato by topping the Boys 1500m run with a time of 4:39.37.

He was followed by Aaron Gumban (4:41.77) of Sto. Tomas and Jan Riel Dagupio (4:46.56) of General Santos City, who settled for the silver and bronze, respectively.

Gumban earlier dominated the Boys 5000m run at 17.49 to win the first gold of the week-long games sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission. (Lito Delos Reyes/PNA)
