BACOLOD CITY — A series of anti-illegal drug operations conducted by various units of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) on Thursday resulted in the confiscation of PHP195,000 worth of illegal drugs and netted nine suspects.
The City Drug Enforcement Unit led by Superintendent Nasruddin Tayuan confiscated PHP150,000 worth of “shabu” during a buy-bust around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Purok Arao in Barangay Vista Alegre.
Operatives arrested Jeszon Mariga, a newly-identified high value target, who is a member of the Sacar Untao Sub Drug Group under the Kamalia Caunda Drug Group.
Mariga, who sold PHP1,000 worth of “shabu” to a police agent, yielded two big and one small sachets of the prohibited substance. He is detained at Police Station 7.
A separate operation simultaneously conducted by Police Station 2 at Purok Narra, Barangay 8 yielded 20 small sachets of “shabu” worth PHP20,000.
The subject was able to escape, but the operatives arrested two suspects using illegal drugs inside the house.
Around 12:20 a.m. Friday, personnel of Police Station 8 seized PHP18,000 worth of “shabu” from drug surrenderer Jethro Baldecasa following a buy-bust at Purok 3, Magsungay in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
The rest of the operations conducted by other units yielded the remaining volume of illegal drugs and suspects.
Records of BCPO showed the nine arrested drug personalities included one high-value target, two street level targets, and six newly-identified ones.
On Wednesday, the San Carlos City Police in northern Negros seized PHP225,000 worth of “shabu” during the operative conducted at Fatima Village in Barangay Rizal.
Three newly-identified drug personalities were arrested during the operation.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has declared that the illegal drug situation in the province is not alarming since drug supply merely passes through its localities.
Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., police provincial director, said in a presentation to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Wednesday that there is no truth to reports that illegal drugs come from Negros Occidental.
According to his report, drugs sourced from Cebu pass through cities of San Carlos and Escalante in the north while the supply from Mindanao enters Bais City in Negros Oriental going to Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental and other points in the province. (PNA)
