DOLE warns vs. bogus online recruitment, London jobs

MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday warned the public against a bogus e-mail address using the name of the Philippine Embassy to lure Filipino looking for jobs in London.

Based on a report of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in London, the fake e-mail account identified as [email protected] poses as the Philippine Embassy in the United Kingdom (UK) and recruits overseas workers for non-existent jobs.

The fraudulent scheme was exposed when a report reached the Philippine Trade & Investment Centre (PTIC) in the said country about the said fake email address which recruits workers and provides requirements for UK B1 Working Visa.

For its part, the PTIC clarified that the unscrupulous address is not the official e-mail of the Philippine Embassy in London nor affiliated with any Philippine government agency.

London Labor Attaché Reydeluz Conferido sought the assistance of other government agencies to track down the source of the email address, and immediately file cases against those behind it to protect Filipino workers.

“We hope that we could mobilize the other government resources to track its source and bring to justice those who are so brazen in this illegal activity,” he said in a statement.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has repeatedly reminded Filipinos jobseekers who plan to work overseas to verify the license and permits of recruitment agencies and the legitimacy of the job orders. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
