Couple killed in vehicular collision in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY — A couple died and two were injured in a collision between an ambulance and a private vehicle at the intersection of the Circumferential Road in Barangay Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao here early Thursday morning.

Dead were Ramon Sampani and his wife, Rosalyn, both 54, of San Miguel, Iloilo province. They were on board the ambulance owned by the municipality, when it collided with a Chevrolet Trail Blazer at the intersection.

The husband was scheduled to undergo dialysis in this city accompanied by his wife. They were brought to two separate hospitals but declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Investigation showed that the Chevrolet was running at some 120 kilometers per hour from Jaro District to Arevalo District passing the Circumferential Road when it overtook a pick-up jeep and then was hit by the ambulance.

PO3 Carl Petalco, Mandurriao Police Station traffic investigator, said the driver of the car, Gilbert Saclauso, 39, is now detained at the Mandurriao Police Station.

He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to damage to properties, double homicide and double physical injuries.

Ambulance driver, Efrain De Guzman, 39, complained of body pains and sustained an injury on the left side of his head. He is confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center.

Another ambulance passenger, 51-year-old Eddie Vera, was also injured and brought to the Iloilo Doctors Hospital. Both are now in stable condition. (Perla Lena/PNA)
