Remains of 2 OFW hit-and-run victims in Saudi arrive in PH

MANILA — The remains of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were victims of hit-and-run in Saudi Arabia last March 4 arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday.

The remains of construction workers Joel Banhaon of Laguna and Mark Agdan of Quezon were brought back to the country via a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight.

Their families and representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA) were at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to bring their remains to their hometowns.

According to the victims’ families, the duo had decided to go bicycling when they were hit by an SUV driven by a 15-year-old boy.

Banhaon’s wife, Leonora, told airport reporters she was able to talk to Joel a few hours before the incident happened. She said Joel had told her he was busy and she should call him again later.

“When I woke up, I dialed his number. But no one was answering,” she said.

Leonora received the news from Joel’s co-workers.

The Philippine government will provide financial assistance to Banhaon and Agdan’s kin.

OWWA Deputy Administrator Ariel Ignacio said he would fly to Saudi Arabia on April 6 to inquire about the status of the case and seek justice for the two OFWs. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
