E-vehicle industry in ASEAN vow closer collaboration

MANILA — Electric vehicle (e-vehicle) associations within Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states are striving for closer collaboration for the development of the growing industry.

Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) President Rommel Juan said that their shared goal was strengthened by the e-vehicle workshop held in Bangkok last month, organized by the Thai Ministry of Science and Technology. Juan met with his counterparts in the region, including those from e-vehicle associations in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea.

Juan said he took the opportunity to discuss with the leaders of e-vehicle associations the future of ASEAN Federation of Electric Vehicle Association, which was launched in Manila two years ago. “The best result coming out of this workshop was our agreement to forge deeper technical and non-technical collaborations among nations in the region to promote the latest in e-vehicle technology and learn from each other’s best practices,” he added.

“We realized we need to work together so we can be best prepared for the coming of the next generation of vehicles such as those powered by low carbon biofuels and electric and hybrid motors. These are the vehicles of the future and we need to be ready to embrace them when they finally set foot in our country,” he added. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
