DavOr hospital back to normal after Friday’s fire

DAVAO CITY – The operation of the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital is back to normal after Friday evening’s fire, the chief of the Provincial Information Office said.

The fire broke out at an open space on the second floor of the hospital past 6 p.m. but was declared out an hour later due to the immediate response of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Davao Oriental Police, emergency responders, and local rescue teams, Karen Lou Deloso, provincial information officer, said.

Deloso said hospital staff and patients were evacuated.

There was no reported injury, she said, adding that the fire resulted in minor damage because the open space at the back portion of the hospital was only used for stocking scraps.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Deloso said.

The provincial-run hospital opened in 1971 with only 25 beds. It has since grown into a 200-bed facility on a five-hectare land in Panamin, Barangay Matiao, Mati City that was donated by Gen. Hans Menzi.

It recently launched its diagnostic service after receiving a state-of-the-art CT-Scan worth PHP23 million. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
