WBO to rescore Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn fight, but won’t change result

World Boxing Organization (WBO) on Thursday has decided to rescore the Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn controversial welterweight title bout without any plans of changing the result, as a response to the letter sent by Games and Amusement Board (GAB).

“We will appoint 5 anonymous competent judges from different countries to watch the fight with no sound,” WBO announced on their Facebook page.

According to WBO, they will tabulate the results and they will analyze every round that each fighter won using an average scale based on 60,80 and 100% to have clearer idea.

“That means that 3 of the 5 officials have to agree to determine which fighter won the round. The purpose of this review is to be able to give the fan certainty of who was the winner of the fight, even though we do not have the power to reverse the decision of the judges based on discretion. Other than there was a rematch clause on the fight contract,” WBO said.

This decision of WBO was their full response to GAB’s plead to review the recent bout, with the letter saying, “We (GAB) would like to echo the stand of many boxing followers on the possible errors of the referee and the judges who officiated the subject fight.”

WBO President Francisco Valcarcel, however, reiterated that even though there will be a full match review, no reversal of decision shall be made.

“We must make it clear that an Official’s discretion, whether Judge or Referee, is irrevocable. The decision of an Official should only be revoked when fraud or violations of the Law occur,” Valcarcel pointed out through a letter released on Thursday, July 6.  | Tretch Melarpes – PTV
