Internal cleansing tops Albayalde’s agenda as next PNP chief

MANILA — Incoming Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar D. Albayalde on Monday said discipline within the ranks and weeding out scalawags and misfits will be the hallmark of his stint as the country’s top cop.

In a statement, Albayalde said he is committed to continue a policy of internal cleansing as well as to professionalize all police officers.

He also stressed the significance of the Police Officer’s Pledge and encouraged the whole police force to live with it.

“Hindi ako (I am not) strict. I just follow the rules and regulations. Sa mga sumama ang loob dahil sa ating pagdidisiplina, mas masama ang loob ng PNP sa inyo dahil pinapahiya ninyo ang buong PNP (For those who had hard feelings because of our implementation of discipline, the PNP all the more has more ill feelings because you are causing embarrassment to the whole PNP). This has to stop,”Albayalde said.

He pointed out that he is not out to humiliate any police officer but rather it was his way of stripping the bad attitudes and attributes.

Albayalde also congratulated his present unit, the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) in becoming the showcase of the PNP and thanked the Team NCRPO for its significant contributions to the PNP’s accomplishments.

The incoming PNP chief emphasized that he will not create a new policy and will instead give recognition to those who will perform well their duties but will be merciless to those who will commit offenses for personal gain.

Albayalde will replace outgoing PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa. (PNA)
