Alvarez vows to work hard despite low satisfaction rating

MANILA — With his net satisfaction rating plummeting to a record low, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez took it as a “challenge” for the House of Representatives to do more work, noting that the public has yet to feel the impact of the new laws enacted by the 17th Congress.

Alvarez made the statement on Wednesday after he received a net satisfaction rating of +1 (neutral) in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey. This is 7 points below his previous record-low of neutral +8 in September 2017.

“The latest Social Weather Stations survey results are a barometer of the public’s pulse at a certain period but continually serve as a challenge for us to do our work,” Alvarez said.

“I believe that the 17th Congress has done its job in passing laws that respond to the needs of our people in various fields of endeavor. The SWS survey result, however, shows many of our people have yet to feel the impact of these new laws,” he added.

The Speaker said there is a need to further cultivate a “more free-flowing exchange of communications” to reach out to a greater number of people throughout the country.

He said he would still push for greater public awareness about the reforms undertaken aimed at achieving sustained economic growth, political stability and social progress under the Duterte administration.

“There is a huge task ahead but we will persevere for all to benefit from it,” Alvarez said. (PNA)
