Evasco to launch Duterte’s flagship anti-poverty program in Cebu

CEBU CITY — Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. will lead the launch of the administration’s anti-poverty program in the Visayas at the Cebu Technological University (CTU) grounds here on April 21.

The “Biyaya ng Pagbabago Tungo sa Masagana at Matiwasay na Buhay Pilipino” or “Biyaya ng Pagbabago” for short, was initiated by the Office of the Cabinet Secretary under the leadership of Evasco, in partnership with the Kilusang Pagbabago (KP) movement.

“Biyaya ng Pagbabago” aims to bring the national government’s various poverty alleviation programs to the grass roots.

Also expected to arrive is Office of Participatory Governance Undersecretary Joselito Libres, while Cebu mayors, led by Mayor Tomas Osmeña, and regional heads of the different government agencies will be there to welcome them.

The launch will be ushered in by the opening of booths and break-out sessions in the morning before the launch proper starts at 1:30 p.m.

Afterwards, the BnP will be launched in Talibon, Bohol on April 28, Tacloban City on May 5, Iloilo on May 19, Roxas City on May 26, Ormoc on June 2, Catarman on June 9, Sagay in Negros Occidental on June 16, and Dumaguete on June 30.

Lead convenor Doris Mongaya of KP-Visayas told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday that with the launch of the BnP, they expect faster implementation of the program in the entire Visayas region.

Participating agencies are the departments of agriculture, environment, agrarian reform, labor, trade, interior, health, and social welfare, as well as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Coconut Authority, Cooperative Development Authority, National Food Authority, Philippine Information Agency, Social Security System, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the National Housing Authority.
