TACLOBAN CITY, July 8 — Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD) Regional Director Restituto Macuto said Saturday the agency had provided burial assistance to the family of the two casualties of the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that hit Kananga and Ormoc City on Thursday.
Macuto said the agency gave PHP38,000 burial assistance and additional PHP5,000 cash to the family of Gerry Movilla, a 4Ps beneficiary from Kananga town that died in the earthquake.
“As for his children, we will check if what other assistance they need that the agency can provide to them,” Macuto said.
The DSWD also provided PHP5,000 cash assistance and burial assistance to the family of Riza Rosales, the lone casualty from Ormoc City.
Macuto added that they still need to receive the final report by the Office of Civil Defense that another quake victim who was hospitalized has died.
About 80 people were reported injured by the tremor.
“Tents are already distributed to the affected local government units for them to distribute it to the affected families including non-food items like malong, blanket, mats and food packs for the need of the families” said Macuto.
The DSWD here including their central office is ready to provide more assistance to affected LGUs if they will ask for their affected constituents, added Macuto.
