
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — The National Power Corporation (Napocor) has recently deployed seven 600-kilowatt (kW) additional generating sets to four Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) areas in Palawan to provide reliable power supply services and support tourism.
In a press statement received by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the Napocor said it inaugurated the seven generating sets on April 18 for its power facilities in the municipalities of San Vicente, El Nido, Cuyo, and Culion.
“All of the SPUG areas mentioned operate at 24 hours and serve around 12,000 households and 900 commercial establishments,” according to the statement.
The ceremonial switch-on and launching of the new power generating sets were held at the San Vicente Diesel Power Plant in Barangay New Agutaya, San Vicente.
It was led by Napocor vice president for Power Engineering Services, Atty. Rogel Teves and Mayor Nieves Rosento of El Nido.
The event was also attended by representatives of local government units and stakeholders in the said towns.
SPUG is one of the functional groups of the Napocor that is mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA) to perform the missionary electrification function and shall be responsible for providing power generation and its associated power delivery systems in areas that are not connected to the main transmission system.
