GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Around 6,000 job vacancies are up for grabs in the upcoming Labor Day job and business fairs here, spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 12.
Sisinio Cano, DOLE-12 director, said Thursday they have invited at least 80 employers and recruitment agencies for the event, which will be held at the trade halls of the SM mall here.
He said they are targeting to generate around 3,000 jobs for both overseas and domestic placements.
“Our secretariat has been coordinating with a number of employers and recruitment agencies so we expect the figures to increase by the opening of the fair on May 1,” he said in a press conference.
For the overseas placements, which is coordinated by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration regional satellite office, a total of 35 recruitment agencies are expected to participate.
Among the confirmed job vacancies are for teachers in China; nurses, construction workers, cleaners and mechanics in Saudi Arabia; and, cooks in Malta.
But Cano said they are focusing their efforts on maximizing the vacancies for local placements.
“We want to offer more local employment opportunities given the uncertain situation in some countries, especially for our domestic helpers,” he said.
The top local vacancies so far are for service crews, household attendants, production workers, staff nurses, mall staff and new recruits for the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
Aside from the job fair, Cano said they have lined up a range of services under the “Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan” or TNK strategy.
Now on its third year of implementation, he said they have partnered with various government agencies for the rollout of convergence services to expand opportunities for job seekers and other local stakeholders.
These included the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Foreign Affairs, Professional Regulation Commission, Pagibig Fund, Philippine Statistics Authority, Bureau of Internal Revenue and the National Bureau of Investigation.
Among the services that will be offered are the issuance of clearances and certifications for work-related requirements.
DTI will hold a trade fair, seminars on entrepreneurship, business counselling and a mall-based sales caravan, while TESDA will conduct skills showcases and demonstrations.(PNA)
