Grandslam-seeking SMB trades Van Opstal to Globalport for Von Pessumal

The recent Commissioner’s Cup Champion San Miguel Beermen sent rookie big man Arnold Van Opstal to Globalport Batang Pier in exchange to another young wingman Von Pessumal.

The PBA announced the said trade via its official social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) on Monday, July 10.

Van Opstal, a 6-foot-5 former La Salle Green Archer center, is likely a young talented secondary back-up center who had minimal playing time for SMB – a team that relies to overwhelming talented starters including the star big-man Junemar Fajardo.

Van Opstal averaged 1.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 2.8 minutes per game in his short stint as SMB’s reinforcement, and also became a part of SMB’s consecutive two-title wins this season.

Meanwhile, the ex-Ateneo Blue Eagles standout Pessumal had an average of 5.2 points and 2.3 rebounds while also shooting 32% efficiently from beyond the arc in 17 minutes of action for Batang Pier in last two conferences.

Here’s the former Ateneo Blue Eagle gunner Von Pessumal’s tweet on this sudden turn of event in his professional career:
