Advisory council cited for improving PNP image

PALO, Leyte — The Philippine National Police (PNP) cited the role of various partners in bringing back the good image of the law enforcement agency.

Chief Supt. Noel Baraceros, director of the PNP Center for Police Strategy Management, said active members of the advisory council in every cities and towns nationwide helped a lot in changing public perception about PNP.

“The stakeholders’ participation was a great part in the realization of the PNP in achieving its vision of becoming highly capable, effective and credible policemen,” Baraceros told reporters in a visit at the PNP regional office here Monday.

“I am thankful that many stakeholders are wanting to be a part of the council. It’s a proof that they really believe that PNP is trying its best to improve its services to the people,” he added.

The official said that over the past years, council members contributed about PHP6 billion worth of donations to PNP in the form of equipment, trainings, and other capability activities nationwide.

Advisory councils are composed of respected members in business, academe, religious, government, youth, media, and other sectors.

“The members are known for their integrity, excellent leadership, model in transparency and good governance, advocate of human rights and transformation, and source of synergy,” Baraceros added.

Local newspaper publisher Dalmacio Grafil, chairman of the Eastern Visayas Regional Advisory Council (RAC), said they have been closely coordinating with PNP officials to heighten linkages between law enforcers and the community.

“One of the RAC’s accomplishments is the facilitation for the construction of police stations in several towns without their own buildings,” Grafil said.

During its summit last week, the RAC tackled the implementation of the PNP’s PATROL (Peace and Order Agenda of Transformation and upholding of the Rule of Law) Plan 2030, said Grafil.
