584 under drug watch list running for polls in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY — The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) office in Bicol said Thursday 584 drug personalities under their watch list are running for various positions in the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on May 14.

Senior Insp. Ma.Luisa Calubaquib, information officer of PNP Bicol, said 81 are running for the post of barangay captain, 463 for barangay kagawad, 15 for Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and 25 for SK kagawad.

Calubaquib said they obtained the names of the drug personalities after PNP intelligence officers checked and validated their names against the list of candidates at the Commission on Elections.

The names were then matched with the list of drug surrenderers and from the drug personalities included in the watch list from 2016 to the “Tokhang” operations.

She added that they have no right to stop these drug personalities from running for office but they are appealing to the voters to think and choose wisely before casting their ballots.

“Our eyes are focused on them and they are all (the) subject of surveillance operations,” Calubaquib added. (PNA)
