Antique begins rehab for drug surrenderers

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) for drug users in two municipalities in Antique province began Friday.

The program was launched in Libertad and Sebaste towns on Thursday afternoon, said Cherryl Tacda, director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s office in Antique.

“There were 49 drug surrenderers in Sebaste and 11 in Libertad who will undergo the CBRP,” she said in an interview.

Libertad is already catering to its second batch of clients for community-based rehabilitation. The rehab program will be spearheaded by the Antique Provincial Health Office and is open to drug surrenderers with low to mild drug addiction.

No figure was given on the number of people who were enrolled in the first batch.

“The local government units, in order to help these drug surrenderers, will also provide them eventually with livelihood,” she said.

Tacda said many of the drug surrenderers claimed to have only been influenced by their peers or that they became desperate for being unemployed. (PNA)
