PDEA relocates 64 vehicles seized in anti-drug ops to Bulacan

MANILA — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Tuesday said 64 vehicles which were seized during anti-drug operations have been relocated from PDEA national headquarters in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte City (SJDMC), Bulacan.

“All 64 (29 motor vehicles and 35 motorcycles) non-drug evidence vehicles (NDEVs) being held for PDEA’s safekeeping has found a new shelter in a 1,000-square meter parcel of land in SJDMC, Bulacan through the generosity of Mayor Arthur B. Robes,” PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino said in a statement.

On Nov. 9, 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between PDEA and the local government of SJDMC paving the way for the donation of the lot, which will also be utilized in putting up a K9 facility for the training and breeding of the agency’s narcotic detection dogs (NDDs).

Aquino said that the facility is a controlled environment where it can safely store NDEVs and avoid tampering.

The vacated space left by the NDEVs inside the PDEA premises will be used to construct a four-story building with parking spaces.

Meanwhile, Aquino said the PDEA laboratory service has already transferred to its newly constructed building.

The three-story building inside the PDEA national headquarters is equipped with high definition CCTVs as part of the improved security features considering the risks of a storage facility for the confiscated/ seized drugs turned over by the operating units.

Aquino assured the public of a more secured storage of turned over pieces of evidence from other law enforcement agencies (OLEAs).

“In order to come up with a comprehensive laboratory report needed during court proceedings, upgrading our laboratory service is a necessity. This is part of our continuing effort to ensure that we have airtight cases, thereby increasing the conviction rate of drug offenders,” Aquino said. (PNA)
