2 suspected robbers killed in Cavite

CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, Imus City – Two robbery suspects were killed in a shootout with patrolling law enforcers at a gasoline station in Barangay San Juan 2, Bacao, General Trias City, Cavite at dawn Wednesday.

Senior Supt. William Segun, the Cavite police provincial director, said lawmen from the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and General Trias police, led by Supt. Paul Bemotivo, happened to be near the site of the gasoline station when they noticed two of its attendants waving and seeking help after a robbery incident.

Segun said the PIB and city cops were then conducting surveillance operations on the alleged presence of members of the notorious “Termite Gang,” who were reported to be operating in some commercial establishments near the area.

The law enforcers immediately chased the two suspects, who left on board two motorcycles. But the suspects, armed with hand guns, fired at the pursuing lawmen, who retaliated and killed them in the process.

The slain suspects remained unidentified as of press time.

Police recovered two caliber .38 “paltik” (home-made improvised gun) revolvers with ammunition; three cartridges of caliber 9 mm; PHP 1,000 cash and the getaway motorcycles.

The cadavers were brought to the Herald Funeral Homes in Trece Martires City for proper disposition and forensic examination.

Meanwhile, the Cavite provincial police command here said that they have intensified their checkpoint operations, especially against armed lawless elements in relation to the election gun ban and in monitoring the eight areas in the province that fall under the election watchlist, or hotspots.

Segun said he also presented to Police Regional Office (PRO4A)-Calabarzon Regional Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar the confiscated firearms at the provincial headquarters here Tuesday afternoon in connection with the May 14 synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

He said 33 village chiefs from General Trias City have voluntarily surrendered their respective firearms for safekeeping for the forthcoming elections. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
