Peace council wants volume of drugs entering Iloilo City determined

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) wanted a formula that will determine the volume of drugs entering Iloilo City.

In line with this, Iloilo City will be forming a technical working group (TWG) that will look into the matter, said Lawyer Ferdinand Panes, Director of the Department of Interior and Local Government and CPOC secretariat.

“We have the volume (from out of the arrest). What we want to know is the volume of drugs that enter Iloilo City,” he said.

The idea came from Fr. Esperidio Celis, a CPOC member from the religious sector.

The CPOC met Wednesday afternoon in a closed door meeting.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said that there is no formula but Celis insisted that “there must have a certain formula to somehow determine the approximate volume of drugs.”

Panes said knowing the approximate volume could be of help to law enforcement agencies.

The city mayor will soon be coming up with an EO to be drafted together with the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO). The TWG will be composed of the PNP, PDEA, CPDO and probably the DILG.

Meantime, CPOC has advised barangay anti–drug abuse councils (BADACs) to submit their list of drug personalities twice a year to be updated of their drug situation.

BADACs were also advised to pass a resolution recommending to the PDEA and the PNP the delisting of names of drug personalities who upon validation are no longer residing in their barangay.

The PNP has reported that of the 80 drug personalities that were identified in the city’s six districts, 70 were no longer residing in barangays where they used to live. (Perla Lena/PNA)
