Manila cops vow sustained operations vs. illegal drugs

MANILA — The head of the Manila Police District (MPD) has vowed to step up their campaign against all forms of illegal drug activities in the organization’s jurisdiction.

In a statement issued Friday, Manila Police Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel said their operations are aimed at making “Manila a better and safer place to live in.”

Coronel issued the statement as MPD operatives, led by Senior Insp. Gemma Abarra, arrested Friday yet another suspect for drug violations in a checkpoint along Ramon Magsaysay Blvd. near Pureza St. in Sampaloc, Manila.

The suspect, Jessie Landencio, 35 and resident of Apitong St., Malanday, Marikina City, yielded one Honda XRM motorcycle and a small transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

Some private individuals have filed a petition before a Manila court, questioning the validity of the Philippine National Police’s circulars implementing Malacañang’s controversial war on drugs.(PNA)
