Region 6 poll bets urged to voluntarily remove campaign materials

ILOILO CITY — The Commission on Elections 6 (Western Visayas) is urging all candidates in the May 14 polls to voluntarily remove their campaign materials.

Lawyer Tomas Valera, Assistant Regional Director of Comelec-6, in an interview on Monday said that they could only encourage since they have no mandate requiring candidates to remove their campaign materials.

“During rainy season, it may clog in the waterways and may cause flood,” he said.
Local government units “can also initiate clean-up to remove the different campaign materials” in the different areas in their city or town, Valera said.

The commission released guidelines on the limitations on propaganda materials, as well as the common poster areas during the May 4-12 campaign period.

Valera said that he has directed all the election officers in the region to remove illegal posters.

But he said that he is yet to receive reports from them regarding their actions on the ground, especially on the volume of posters that were removed.

Under a Comelec resolution, posters and other printed materials should not exceed two by three feet.

These propaganda materials should only be posted in authorized common poster areas in public places.

Also, they are allowed to post in private properties, provided that the posting has the concern of the owner. (PNA)
