14 hurt in Batangas road mishap

CAMP GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba City — Some 14 passengers were injured after the bus they were riding in crashed into a sub-office booth of the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollways in Balete, Batangas on Monday morning.

Police Supt. Peter Dionisio, chief of Region 4A’s (Calabarzon) Highway Patrol Unit, said an Alps Liner bus, with plate number AIA7313, was travelling northbound to Cubao, Quezon City when it smashed into the toll booth at about 2:50 a.m. Monday.

According to Dionisio, bus driver Marlon Antenor, who sustained a cut on his forehead, reportedly fell asleep.

He added that 14 of 45 passengers, including the driver and conductor, sustained physical injuries and were rushed to the Metro Lipa Hospital and Mary Mediatrix Medical Center in Lipa City.

Three of the eight injured passengers who were brought to the Metro Lipa Medical Center, were admitted for hospitalization. They were Antenor; bus conductor Daniel Gonzales, who sustained a fractured bone on his left leg and a wound on his face; and passenger Teodoro Contreras, who also sustained a wound on the forehead.
