Palace releases appointment papers of new DOT chief

MANILA — Malacañang has released the appointment papers of new government officials, among them newly sworn-in Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Romulo-Puyat’s paper on May 11 but it was released to the media on Wednesday (May 16).

Romulo-Puyat replaced Wanda Tulfo-Teo, who tendered her resignation after the Commission on Audit questioned the PHP60-million payment by the DOT for ad placements on a television show hosted by her brothers Ben and Erwin Tulfo on state-run TV network PTV 4.

Prior to her appointment, Romulo-Puyat was an undersecretary at the Department of Agriculture.

Malacañang also released the appointment paper of Special Envoy of the President to the State of Kuwait Abdullah D. Mama-o.

Duterte signed Mama-o’s appointment paper on May 9 but it was released to the media also on Wednesday.

Mama-o will serve as Special Envoy of the President to Kuwait from May 1 to Oct. 31, 2018.

Mama-o, an incumbent presidential adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers concerns, has been tasked to repatriate all 800 Filipinos who ran away from their employers.

Meanwhile, the President also appointed Karen Jimeno as Undersecretary for Disaster Resiliency under the Presidential Management Staff of the Office of the President.

Prior to her appointment, Jimeno served as an undersecretary and spokesperson for the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Duterte also appointed Benjamin Escandor Palmero as member of the board of directors of the Philippine National Oil Company.

Both Jimeno and Palmero’s appointment papers were signed on May 15 but released to the media on Wednesday. (Azer Parrocha/PNA)
