Over 1,300 SK winners to undergo training

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) (youth council) officials from the 1, 364 barangays in the province should undergo the mandatory training before they can assume public office, said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In an interview, DILG Pangasinan Provincial Director Agnes de Leon on Wednesday warned youth leaders to attend the training in their respective areas or their position will be forfeited.

She said the training is mandated by the SK Reform Act, which was further reinforced by DILG memorandum circular 2018-48.

“The mandatory training’s aim is to prepare both the elected and appointed officials for their roles as youth leaders of their respective barangays,” de Leon added.

The training will cover the history of SK and salient features, meetings and resolutions, planning, ethics, budgeting, and local governance.

De Leon said the one-day training, which runs from May 16 to 26, will be held in their respective towns or cities.

“For cities or municipalities with less than 30 barangays, the local government unit (LGU) will take charge of their training, while those with more than 30 barangays will be handled by the Pangasinan State University and Lyceum Northwestern University in coordination with DILG and LGU,” she said.
