Top 5 most wanted in Pangasinan town killed in police encounter

MANAOAG, Pangasinan — Two suspected robbers, including one of the top five most wanted persons in Mapandan town, were killed in an encounter with Manaoag Police on Monday night.

Police Chief Inspector Dave Mahilum, chief of Manaoag Police said in an interview that one of the suspects was identified as Ramon Carpio Cavigan, a resident of Nilombot, Mapandan.

Mahilum said Cavigan was ranked as Top 5 Most Wanted Person in Mapandan town, with multiple police records ranging from theft to armed robbery, and several standing warrants of arrest.

He said upon receiving information from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) regarding the two armed suspects, they set up a checkpoint operation in the coastal road of Barangay Poblacion.

Based on the description provided by the CIDG, police spotted the suspects riding a motorcycle.

Instead of yielding, the riders fired at policemen using a handgun, which prompted them to retaliate, resulting in the death of the suspects, said Mahilum.

He said police recovered two caliber 38 pistols and a motorcycle, believed to be stolen.

“According to our coordinated reports, they have previously robbed a lumber and construction supply establishment multiple times,” Mahilum said.

Cavigan’s companion has yet to be identified as the investigation continues. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
