Maynilad bares water service interruption in 5 Novaliches barangays

MANILA — Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI) has announced a 19-hour water service interruption in five populous barangays in Novaliches, Quezon City from 9 p.m. on May 23, 2018 until 6 p.m. of the following day in connection with its continuing water service improvement projects in the northern part of Metro Manila.

In an advisory to its customers, MWSI said the water service interruption will affect the adjacent barangays of Novaliches Proper, Gulod, Sta. Monica, San Agustin, and Nagkaisang Nayon.

The agency said it will be installing 300-millimeter and 350-mm butterfly valves for the maintenance and operational efficiency of the Novaliches pumping station. As a result, water customers in the five barangays will temporarily experience no water supply while the installation activity is underway.

MWSI advised affected customers to store enough water during times of the day when supply is available. It said that there might be a delay in the resumption of water service in their area.

This is due to several factors such as the area’s elevation, its distance from the Novaliches pumping station and Maynilad pumping stations, and the volume withdrawal from its mainlines.

The five barangays affected by the water service interruption have a total population of 186,700 as of 2015.

Novaliches is the site of the La Mesa reservoir or dam which is the source of water supplies for residents of Metro Manila and nearby provinces such as Cavite and Rizal.

In turn, La Mesa dam draws its water supplies from the Ipo and Angat dams in nearby Norzagaray, Bulacan. (Severino Samonte/PNA)
