Duterte appoints CA presiding justice to SC

MANILA, July 13 — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals (CA) Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr. as the newest associate justice of the Supreme Court (SC).

Reyes, whose appointment papers were signed by the President Wednesday, replaces Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes who retired last July 6.

Justice Reyes studied economics at De La Salle University, the University of California at Berkeley, and Saint Mary’s College, California.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and his Master of Public Administration degree from the Philippine Women’s University.

After graduating from law school and passing the bar examinations in 1978, he worked as prosecutor and later as Chief Legal Officer of the Office of the Tanodbayan.

He was appointed Judge of the Metropolitan Trial Court, Branch 61 in Makati in 1987 and Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 75, San Mateo, Rizal in 1990.
