ILOILO CITY — The skeletal remains of Angelo Claveria, the contract worker who was killed in South Korea, will be back in his hometown in Cabatuan, Iloilo on Sunday.
Jeanette Claveria, younger sister of Angelo, in an interview on Friday, said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed that his remains will arrive at the Iloilo International Airport at 9:20 p.m. on board Philippine Airlines flight PR 2141.
He will be laid to his final resting place at the Cabatuan Catholic cemetery on June 1 after a 2 p.m. mass at the St. Nicholas de Tolentino Church in the town.
Jeanette added that there is a possibility that Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go would drop by at the wake of his brother in Barangay Rizal Ilawod on Sunday.
Go was instrumental in expediting the repatriation of Angelo’s skeletal remains from South Korea.
The sister, who earlier expressed gratitude to the assistance of the government, said they might request legal assistance from Secretary Go so justice would be given to his brother.
She said that they only rely on a Korean newspaper to get an update on the status of Angelo’s case because the Philippine Embassy in South Korea and the Iloilo Consular Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs do not apprise them of developments.
Jeanette, quoting a report from the Korean Times, said that Korean authorities are seeking the help of the Interpol in apprehending the suspect, who has been identified and has already returned to the Philippines.
The 34-year-old Angelo left to work in a factory in South Korea in 2014. He made his last communication with his family on Christmas Eve of 2015.
Through a DNA test, Korean authorities confirmed that the bones found in a water purifier facility in South Korea were that of Angelo’s. (PNA)
