Tenements for urban poor to rise in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A PHP370-million tenement housing project for the urban poor here may soon rise in this city, Mayor Roderick Alcala announced Monday.

During the regular flag-raising ceremony Monday, Alcala said the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) has already approved in principle the building of tenement housing units in Barangay Marketview.

The proposed project would be composed of five 3-storey buildings, each costing PHP 62 million, with the total budget allocation of PHP 370 million, he said.

Alcala said he recently went to the SHFC head office, accompanied by City Urban Poor Affairs Division head Lerma Fajarda, City Engineer Rhodencio Tolentino, and City Assessor officer-in-charge Israel Felisco and they met with SHFC President Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling.

Alcala’s team presented to Cabling the city government’s proposal for the tenement housing units in Barangay Marketview.

The mayor said the project is already approved in principle by Cabling, who claimed he himself will present the project proposal to the SHFC board of directors.

Alcala assured urban poor residents of Lucena City that the project will just need minor revisions to finally attain reality. (Belinda M. Otordoz/PNA)
