DepEd still filling up new teacher items

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Department of Education’s (DepEd) office in Antique is still in the process of filling up new teacher items.

Dr. Gaudencio Riego, Chief Education Supervisor of DepEd Antique’s Curriculum and Implementation Division, said in an interview Tuesday that there are 138 new teacher items for elementary and 192 for high school.

“The filling up of teachers’ items will be until June 31,” Riego said.

DepEd Antique has already finished ranking applicants and they are now processing their appointment papers.

“Some teachers are already teaching because they already have the designation order by our Superintendent,” he said.

In Antique, the teacher to pupil ratio is 1:36 pupils for elementary and 1:31 for high school.

Meanwhile, he said they still lacked English textbooks for the second to third quarters of Grade 7.

“Our textbooks are provided by the DepEd Central Office,” he said, adding that hopefully, they would soon receive complete textbooks for their students.

The DepEd official also said that because of the Brigada Eskwela, 98 percent of the 5,035 public elementary and high schools welcomed their students last Monday. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
