ZAMBOANGA CITY–The city government here has dismissed from service two employees who were caught by police authorities involved in illegal drug activities.

Lawyer Jesus Carbon, city legal officer, said one of the two dismissed employees was an engineer assigned at the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources, while the other one was a personnel of the City Treasurer’s Office.

Carbon said they were terminated from service just last week although they were arrested by the local police last year.

He explained that Mayor Isabelle Climaco-Salazar’s termination order became final and executory after the Civil Service Commission (CSC) affirmed their dismissal from service.

The CSC has also forfeited all benefits due them, Carbon said, adding that they are perpetually disqualified from holding public office.

Salazar warned that she will not tolerate any city government employee engaged in illegal drug activities, may they be user or pusher.

She also ordered random drug tests on city government workers to ensure they are drug-free. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
